A Program of Virginia Squash

Squash Rocks

Building Athletes. Building Futures.

Since 2010, developing underserved Richmond youth into well-rounded athletes through the sport of squash.

Our Mission

Squash Rocks pairs squash with academic support, mentorship, and life skills. We meet kids where they are and stick with them year-round, season after season, helping them grow into confident athletes, students, and leaders.

The Program

On Court

Weekly coaching sessions teach the fundamentals of squash. Kids develop discipline, focus, and the kind of resilience only sport can teach.

In the Classroom

Academic enrichment and homework support reinforce what happens at school. Court time is earned with effort in the classroom.

Around the Table

Every session includes a hot meal. For some kids it's the most reliable dinner of the week. Time to refuel, talk, and decompress together.

In the Community

Mentorship from volunteer coaches and Richmond squash players. Tournament trips, social events, and lasting relationships.

Anna Julia Cooper School

Squash Rocks is based at the Anna Julia Cooper School in Richmond's East End, a tuition-free independent school serving students from underserved communities. The partnership has anchored the program since day one.

The school provides the daily structure. Squash Rocks provides the racquets, the courts, the coaching, and a community of mentors who show up week after week.
